How to Avoid Becoming the Next Genzyme, Toyota, or BP

I recommend this article by Forbes columnist Saj-nicole Joni and appreciate very much her suggestion that folks take a look at my book on preventing large-scale failures.

is the toyota million mile policy true?

Q: i have been told that if you can get a toyota up to a million miles and toyota is there to see you drive it, that you get a brand new whatever your have. is this true? and i have a 2004 toyota tacoma, will it last the long or will it be worth putting ht emoney in it to keep it running that long?
(2010-11-28 12:36:46)

A: The mileage will most likely have to be documented, where service work orders that recorded mileage particularly for oil changes have to be verified. They won't exclusively look at the odometer reading to certify a million-mile car. I've never heard of Toyota having such a policy, but for a Toyota owner to contact a public relations agent with the company inviting them to verify a bona fide million-mile car it might result in such a premuim if they are impressed.

If you average 50,000 miles a year you'd reach a million in 20 years, and that's a lot of driving. If you have been using a synthetic oil like Mobil1 your chances are better however changing it whenever it's due is the key no matter what type of oil you use. If you live in a dry climate and protect the paint it won't rust. Basic care and maintenance will keep it dependable, if you reach a million miles in the same car before the wheels fall off of it consider yourself very lucky.

97/01 Toyota Camry timing belt replacement 4 cylinder engine?

Q: How much would it cost to change a timing belt on this vehicles only labor work give me a close estimates?

Thanks

it the job easy to do?
(2010-11-26 23:45:27)

A: This job is not beyond the scope of a good DIY person with a proper Haynes manual, a jack, and genuine Toyota replacement parts.. In the Detroit area, we have several foreign car parts stores that carry timing belt kits that include new belt, pulleys, and instructions. Most of these kits come from Continental. Are you at all mechaniucaklly inclined?? You can also use the Internet to have genuine Toyota parts sent to you from various Toyota dealers around the country using the internet/ GOOD LUCK!!! ALSO>>>> find a library that carries the "ALLDATA" subscription. You will find ALL details on performing this job AND MUCH MORE including secret recalls, etc.

Toyota’s new helmet technology makes concussions a thing of the past.

One of Toyota’s campaign directions is Ideas for Good, which shows how their technology can be applied to other things in life. Even though the actors’ performances feel stiff, I still like the concept. This spot comes off as a little disingenuous regarding the issue of concussions in football though. I hope their THUMS accident software that was good enough for Wake Forrest was also shared with the rest of the NCAA’s teams, not to mention the official NFL helmet provider Riddell (which came out with its own improved helmet technology last year).

Aside from the subtext that you need to wear a helmet when driving a Toyota, the idea that it’s now okay to encourage a helmet to helmet collision? Hmm. If there’s one thing more prominent in the news lately than Sarah Palin, it’s the issue of concussions in football. I’m no M.I.T. grad, and I didn’t stay in a Holiday Inn last night, but from the research I’ve looked at, there’s still no amount of collisions that can be deemed safe for players.

As I understand it during a hit, the brain keeps moving and sloshes around inside the skull when the head’s forward momentum suddenly stops – usually after colliding with another player’s body or helmet. This is what causes a concussion. So the player who lays there motionless after a Jacked-Up style hit likely experienced the brain short-circuiting itself.

It’s the same principle they show in the spot and the reason seatbelts save so many lives now. Before seat belt use was mandated by law, it was the accident *after* the accident that seriously injured or killed so many people. (Car hits something, and without anything to restrain your body, it keeps moving forward and hits something like a steering wheel, causing in effect a second accident. Sexy, huh.)

Unless they found a way to inject instant airbags inside your skull however, the brain still moves around during a hit. These are college players shown, yet pro athletes colliding at full speed will result in stronger collisions. You can’t change the laws of physics, no matter what kind of padding they use, and if younger players think it’s safer now to lead with their helmets, they’ll carry those bad habits with them to the next level.

Concussions are also a cumulative injury where the effects get worse with each subsequent hit, but where you also may not know the full extent of their damage until years later. (How many players left the field groggy after games this weekend alone?) I’m all for safety, but this spot sends the wrong message.

what does Toyota do to make you think they have profit as there business aim?

Q: help????
(2010-11-27 08:34:41)

A: Toyota lets dealerships damage their brand in the name of profits.Customers become dumb from new car smell and dealerships take advantage as far as possible.Everybody drives a used car now you do too.Dealerships make money from big loans so they push cars with expensive technology.Expensive technology in cinema makes theater owners happy because it produces blockbuster profits.

One could replace the Toyota sign with another brand they are all alike. My Ford vibrated when braking so the dealership replaced the ring gear.It stopped when I fixed the brakes-duh.Dealerships had people sign papers that if they did not get paid by cash for clunkers the customer would pay. They put up large flags to lure veterans for abuse not for patriotism. They send their children to law school to get their money back not because they care.

A list of car brands/models?

Q: I'm doing an AP Statistics project, and I have to pick a car in order to gather up data based on age of the car (X) and advertised asking price (Y); however, I have to pick a car that does not have very rare and expensive features, or "classic" models that don't fit the usual price deterioration. (Older cars of the same brand will be cheap, whereas most recent ones will be more expensive). Any suggestions of cars that can be easy to work with? (I don't have any knowledge when it comes to cars).

Toyota to launch entry sedan Toyota Etios in India

Toyota will soon unveil the entry sedan to the Indian market dubbed the Toyota Etios on 1st of December 2010. Shown above is the video showing the all new Toyota Etios which will also available in hatchback version soon. The car is destined for Indian market first before its official launch worldwide. Toyota emphasize in the video "Quality Never Compromise" and "Quality Revolution" for the new Toyota Etios which to me portrays a strong message even though the car is cheap but you will get the same uncompromised safety for its cars in India, a strong message to the world despite all the hype of worldwide safety recalls that has been plaguing Toyota cars recently.

There is no word yet from UMW Toyota Sdn. Bhd to bring in an entry sedan here in Malaysia. With the looks quite similar to our local champion Proton Saga, this might be the first entry model for Toyota here in Malaysia if UMW Toyota decides to bring in the car as CBU from India. With a price tag of less than RM60,000 it would certainly makes run for their money for any other car models here in Malaysia.

Port gear up for Toyota Cup Final

I've made my feelings about the Toyota League Cup perfectly clear both here and elsewhere. For the Thai football authorities to introduce a new competition halfway through a season that was already suffering from fixture congestion is, in my view, greedy, opportunistic and thoroughly unprofessional.

With that said, my antipathy for the tournament should not get in the way of Thai Port's big day at Suphachalasai Stadium on Sunday. The fans clearly don't agree with me anyway! They turned up in large numbers to loudly cheer the teams very own 'Istanbul 2005' style comeback against Raj Navy Rayong from outside PAT Stadium on Wednesday evening (pic below).

With just 34 minutes of the Semi-Final second leg remaining, Navy Rayong were leading 4-1 on aggregate. If the Navy players thought they had already booked their place in the Cup Final, they were very much mistaken. Port fought back with tremendous courage and spirit, netting 3 times in 20 minutes to force extra-time. The winning goal was then scored in the 106th minute by Sarayoot Chaikamdee, who typifies the teams battling quality...'Cometh the hour, cometh the man'.

Port's stuttering run to the final (Played:10 Won:4 Drawn:3 Lost:3 For:16 Against:12) is in stark contrast to that of our opponents Buriram PEA - who have pretty much thrashed every team they've met so far (Played:10 Won:8 Drawn:2 Lost:0 For:35 Against:5). Despite that fact, don't expect too many goals on Sunday. Both of the 2010 TPL games between the teams ended in goalless draws.

One Buriram PEA player who will be looking to put a spanner in the works (if fit & selected) is Thai Port old boy Pipat Tonkanya (pic below). If his team wins, it would complete a clean sweep of the major domestic trophies over the last 3 seasons for the Thai International striker (TPL 2008 with PEA, FA Cup 2009 with Thai Port & Toyota League Cup 2010 with Buriram PEA). No offence to my ol' mate Pip, but I hope he leaves Suphachalasai on Sunday a disappointed man.

Port's players and staff are well prepared for the match. They've already said their prayers and made merit making offerings...Let's hope that it will bring us some luck at a Stadium that has not been a happy hunting ground for us this year (Played:5 Won:0 Drawn:2 Lost:3 For:5 Against:11).

Also - fingers crossed that whatever the result, there will be no trouble on the terraces.

GOOD LUCK LADS!! - ขอให้โชคดีกับทีมการท่าเรือ!!

What are you looking forward to most in the 2008 NASCAR season?

Q: Do you have any expectations from this season in NASCAR? What would you like to see? I can't wait to see Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch working as team mates. That could be some intense action there. And you know their going to have a different kind of attitude, driving Toyota.
(2010-11-19 05:00:18)

A: Some day Toyota will be a good car I just don't see it yet. It took two good drivers to a lot of did not qualify to mean much. As for what I'm looking forward to is every thing NASCAR.

Toyota Introduces Electric RAV4, Powered By Tesla Motor

Toyota Introduces Electric RAV4, Powered By Tesla Motor: "thecarchik writes 'As they say, everything old is new again. Fourteen years after it launched its very first RAV4 crossover at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Toyota returned to LA to launch an all-electric version of its latest RAV4. And this one is, as the logos in a teaser photo released earlier said, 'powered by Tesla.' The launch of the second version of the RAV4 EV is on a fast timeline, led by a working group made up of Toyota's Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and a team from Tesla Motors. The partnership will build 35 'Phase Zero' test versions of the latest RAV4 EV next year, with production launch expected in 2012.'
