Q: I'm looking to buy my first used car (I'm 16) and I need advice. I need to know everything about car buying, from financing to title tax and etc. I don't want to ask my parents for help yet because I want to present this all to them when I sit them down to talk to them about it. I know I'm gonna have to save up money, and I'm fine with that since I have a decent job. Anyways. Any help or advice? Anything is appreciated!
Oh and would it be better to buy from a dealership or an individual person?

A: When purchasing your first car, there are MANY things to consider, none the least of which is your budget.
The group of folks who are looking to purchase their first car, are generally the same folks who have a limited budget, and may even be seeking the help of a lender.
The check you write for the purchase of the car is only the first of many you will have to write before you can drive away. Registration, taxes, and insurance cost should also be considered prior to making any deal. Buying a vehicle that will offer lower insurance cost could save you HUNDREDS of dollars every year!
Young folks should also resist the urge to purchase a “cool” car, and focus on a vehicle that has a good track record. The fancy stuff will come with your next vehicle, but for now a car that deliver’s reliable service will be an investment void of future headaches, and disappointment. Buying a fantastic car with “issues”, for the price of a mere good one, will probably result in a return to the bus stop.
A couple vehicles to consider may be the Honda Civic (with less than 100k miles), the Toyota Corolla (with less than 100k miles), the Ford Taurus (with less than 80k miles), or a Toyota Camry (4cyl, with less than 100l miles). None of these will “break the bank”, and will probably offer the best service with the fewest trips to the shop.
Good luck to you.
