JAPAN: Toyota turn to bio-PET for linings

Toyota is introducing a new vehicle material that 30% from sugar cane to reduce fuel consumption is lining.

The new bio-materials, bio-polyethylene terephthalate or PET, currently used in pet bottles, will be working as an interior fabric of the car for the first time in the world, the company said.

Use of the new green substance will begin with the luggage compartment of the Lexus Hybrid CT200h by be launched early next year.

Toyota also plans to roll out a new vehicle model, in which 80% of the Interior with eco-friendly plant plastic including bio-PET next year will be created.

In addition to helping to oil consumption and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, is bio-PET more resistant to wear and heat, according to Toyota.

To date, the company uses material that is derived from corn for floor mats in some of the vehicles.
